What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why?

Gaming has always been a huge part of my life not just for entertainment, but for connection, strategy, and even self-discovery. From laugh-out-loud moments with friends to intense one-on-one challenges and immersive solo campaigns, here are the games that have left a lasting mark on me.

Favorite Card Game: Cards Against Humanity

This one’s a classic. If you’ve never played Cards Against Humanity with a group of at least four people, you’re missing out on some of the best unfiltered laughs you’ll ever have. The game thrives on shock value and dark humor and it never fails to stir up hilarious reactions. It’s chaotic, inappropriate, and downright brilliant when played with the right group. There’s never a dull moment.

Favorite Board Game: Chess

Now, switching gears from chaos to calculated chess is my go-to board game. It’s timeless and teaches you more than just how to move pieces. It sharpens your focus, improves foresight, and forces you to think two, three, even four moves ahead. No two games are ever the same, and every opponent brings a new challenge. It’s not just a game; it’s a mental battlefield.

My Favorite Video Games by Console

Being 40, I’ve played my fair share of games across generations of consoles. Narrowing it down wasn’t easy, but here are the ones that stood out the most to me.

Super Nintendo: Super Mario RPG – Legend of the Seven Stars

This was a bold and unexpected take on the Mario universe. Mixing traditional platforming with RPG mechanics in a Final Fantasy-style format? Genius. The storyline, humor, and turn-based combat were unforgettable. It was one of the few games that truly expanded what Mario could be.

Sega Genesis: ToeJam & Earl

This game was unlike anything else at the time. Its funky art style, offbeat humor, and rogue-like gameplay kept me coming back for more even though I never actually beat it. It was weird, wild, and wonderfully original.

Sega Dreamcast: Skies of Arcadia

A pirate-themed RPG with airships, epic battles, and a side-game on the VMU (Virtual Memory Unit)? Skies of Arcadia was ahead of its time. Collecting treasure through the mini-game and seeing it show up in the main campaign made the experience feel dynamic and alive.

🏎 PlayStation (1-5): Gran Turismo Series

No contest here. The Gran Turismo series ignited my love for cars. It wasn’t just about racing it was about understanding vehicle dynamics, tuning performance, and mastering each track. I learned how to tweak suspension, gear ratios, and tire types to suit different conditions. This game didn’t just entertain it educated. That’s rare.

Final Thoughts

Whether it’s the dark humor of Cards Against Humanity, the intellectual warfare of chess, or the immersive world-building of classic video games, these experiences have shaped my gaming journey in unforgettable ways. Each one taught me something about strategy, connection, or even just how to have a good laugh.
